This mini-site was made to help owners of 6th Generation Accords to change their Dash Backlighting to LEDs.

I'm going to show you how to change the stock crappy green bulbs on the climate control for a 2001 Accord V6 to LEDs(Blue being my choice of color), later on I'll touch briefly on how to do the other things like the clock and other buttons, but you'll have to use you imagination as to how to do it. If you don't understand basic electrical theory I don't think this is the best project for you to try, but you can play around with it. Please be careful, and again I do not recommend doing this unless you have at least a basic understanding of electrical theory. I will NOT be held responsible for any mistakes or problems. This is a note of my project, if you choose to follow do so at your own risk. If you don't know what you're doing you could hurt your car, or worse yourself. If you have trouble along the way with this project feel free to email me IF YOUR EMAIL WON'T PASS A SPELLCHECKER DO NOT EMAIL ME, I DO NOT SPEAK GIBBERISH!!!! also I will not answer any of the following questions. Where do I get my LEDs? Are these the right LEDs? Are these the right resistors? I put my LEDs in but they won't light, help. You get the idea. I will try to answer basic technical questions, but anything requiring thought, or any questions I deem unacceptable will not be answered, like if you ask something that I say here. Read all three pages entirely before asking questions. For the last time Do NOT attempt this project unless you have a basic understanding of DC electricity, diodes, and resistors.

With that out of the way let's get started.

The first thing we need to do is get the console off and get the climate control, and clock apart. Firmly grasp the clock on both sides and pull it straight out. It's a little tough but there's just clips holding it there. Remove the two molexs from the clock and set it aside. Now there's a little screw behind where the clock was. Be careful when taking this screw out because if it falls, pardon the pun, but you're screwed.

Next there's two screws under the bezel for the climate control. I have the factory wood stereo bezel so yours may look different but the screws are in the same place. Now pull the center console out, be gentle, it takes a decent tug but don't muscle it because there's wires connected to the climate control. take the wires off of the climate control and take the whole assembly somewhere where you can work and put a soft cloth down so you don't scratch your bezel.

Now you want to remove the climate control from the bezel. On this picture there's 4 screws marked with red arrows, remove those screws. You should be able to separate the Climate control from the bezel now. Using that same picture there are 4 screws marked with blue arrows, take those out along with two on the top that are where the top two red arrows are, I forgot to mark those in the picture, sorry. The white back will come off. You can take the bulbs out now, should be 6 bulbs, 3 3mm and 3 5mm.

now take out the screws that hold the pc board down, marked with red arrows on this picture. I swore I took a pic of this step, but I can't find it. Anyhow gently pull the PC board straight up, and I mean gently, the harnesses for the controls are attached and cannot be removed. You'll see a clear wavy looking thing(diffuser) with a tab on either side, bend the tabs out and remove the wavy thing. Underneath is an ugly glued down greenish blue filter. Take that out(it's tricky, just take your time, it's stuck down with double sided tape).

This is the thing you want to get out(I saved it from when I took it out). Now put the wavy thing back and gently slide the PC Board back in, don't force it, it should slide in with just a little help. remember straight in, don't angle it to the side.

Now put the 4 screws back in the PC Board, and put the plastic cover back over the PC Board to protect it. You'll notice some black tabs going all the way around the climate control, take a small flat tip screw driver and lift one tab at a time while separating the bezel. when you get this done the front should come off, and the knobs will fall off.

lift up the two top buttons from the bottom and remove the nasty filters that are under there.(I forgot to take these out the last time I had it apart). I already took the right one out, the left one is still there to show you.
